First Egg Countdown

My boys found two small eggs in the nest box yesterday, and I found one again later in the day. Found another one this afternoon, yeah, 4 so far! I'm not sure who's laying them, the leghorn or the Naked neck / Turken hen, she was calling yesterday morning, maybe it's hers!

Where did you find your naked neck??? I love those girls! Curious how big the eggs are from them? Congrats on the eggs. I'm still waiting impatiently. :)

Some mature slower - I've had 2 hens (of different breeds) that I have waited 11 months for an egg.  Both of them laid for a few months, then went broody.

Certain hens will not squat for you - usually the ones at the top of the pecking order.  Mine don't squat for me because I have roosters, they squat for them.

I have tons of roosters and mine all squat for me except my Orpington. 4 EE, 2 BR, 2 BSL, GSL, Leghorn and the Orpy laying so far. Guess it just depends on the flock. They squat even more for my 3 year old daughter. Lol. Right level I guess. Makes it easy for her to grab a chicken and start a treat parade. :)

So here are my little eggs. From left to right: Sat, Mon, Tues and today - wednesday. Is it possible that they are from te same hen? We have 1 SLW, 3 RIR, 3 EE and 3 Black australorps. I think my BA has been the first to lay with te RIR close behind, the EEs and SLW to follow there after. This is nased on their combs and wattles being brighter in color. What do you think? Same hen or different?

Shape is a bit different on the lighter one. I think you have 2 pullets laying.

My birds are about 19 weeks old, and I have 4 hens that I think are very close to laying. Two are black sex links, the other two are cuckoo marans. Here are the contenders:

#1: This black sex link is the alpha hen. She was the first, as a pullet, to start jumping on my lap. She's pretty fearless, and she definitely has the biggest comb and waddles of all the hens

#2: This is the other black sex link. She is pretty fearless, but not a fan of being pet. Keep your hands to yourself!!

#3 and #4: Finally, in a photo representing both her and her sister, I have one of the cuckoo marans. These two are very flighy, don't want to be touched or even approached, but man do they love food. They come running when it's treat time, and they make so much noise when they get a juicy morsel of something in their beak that they could put the rooster to shame.

If it's true that comb and waddle size indicates who will lay first, then my bets are on #1. She will probably just do it so she can hold it over the heads of the other ladies. "I laid the FIRST egg!"

Whoever it is, I hope it happens soon. I am so hopeful every morning when I check the laying boxes. I can't take the waiting!
