It's beautiful. What a treasure from your Great Grandmother.
Congrats!
See, you give up and they surprise you! Congrats! And BRRRRRRRRRR on your temps. I don't know how you Alaska folks do it!
Yep, we do it, and so do the birds! It did get colder, -34 Wednesday. Now its warmer, with Big winds!
Well, on the egg topic, I have been getting eggs everyday since sunday. Big, brown Beautiful eggs. And she started using the nest boxes! Oh, and another hen joined in, possibly 2! How I know is because I found a roost egg two days in a row, in the dark, and the aussie, of course, is laying later, and later everyday. Unfortunatly, the first one cracked and splattered when it hit at the extreme temperature.
Tell me, when they first start laying, is it always early in the morning? Yesterday the first layer was supposed to lay at noon, and she didn't, but at 2 o'clock I found an egg ON TOP of the nest boxes (which she has been using), warm, with a buckeye pullet next to it! was this the Buckeye just starting, or #1. running late, forgetting to use the nest boxes, and Penny, the buckeye, happened to be standing up there?
