First Egg Countdown

First egg!! Wooo! It's a rubber egg, and broken, but yaaaaay!! I think it was one of those noisy leghorns!!

Now what??? They are all still on grower since they are mixed breeds and mature at different rates. Also have a roo. I am thinking of offering oyster shell on the side. Will they naturally eat it if they need it?
Yep, just put it in a dish on the side and they will take what their bodies need.

Congrats on the first egg!

What do y'all think? 21 weeks tomorrow.

congrats. I had one of those too.

I just have to say, when I saw your pictures I was like, wait, she has my chickens! I only have three but their in my avi and my EE looks exactly like yours :D Also, my EE is about 30 weeks and still not laying. She's just starting to squat a bit which makes me hopeful that she'll start laying before 40 weeks

My BR had a bright red comb and waddle for about a month before she ever started squatting and our BO still has a very small pink comb and waddle but she's laying now. Anyway, squatting for us seems to be the big sign that they'll start laying within a week.

After finding the broken rubber egg on Sunday, and no egg on Monday, I was hopeful that I would find something this morning. Nothing. I decided to do an afternoon check just in case... Look at what I found in the corner!! The big egg is a store bought size large for comparison.

I think one of 4 brown leghorns is to blame for this! The shell was perfect!
