First Egg Countdown

This is the look I got from one of our pullets when I asked her when she was going to start laying eggs. Lol! She actually has the most developed comb and wattles of all of them, they're 5 months old now.

Look what I found in the preferred nesting box this morning!!!! Finally some color!
This was also found under the roost, frozen. I don't know if it is another EE laying or if a white rubber egg turns yellow when frozen? Anyone have any guesses?

I think that all nine of mine are finally laying, as of yesterday! The girls are 27 weeks old. I had five eggs in nest boxes, and I knew who laid four of them. So there was one mystery egg in a nest box. Then there was the egg laid outside on the deck to their coop, and the egg laid while roosting early in the morning (it fell and was smashed).

So four known eggs, and three eggs I don't know who laid them. But of the five suspects, two of them have been laying for a couple of weeks, and lay much darker eggs than the unknown one in the nest box. The one on the deck was dark, but the color wasn't uniform, and the egg was a little misshapen, like a first egg. And I don't think the two that have been laying for a couple of weeks would have laid one while roosting. So that means the three I didn't know were laying must have laid those three eggs!

most of my 11 girls are laying. I have a few late bloomers but now I have an egg eater...... the other day she was in the nesting box and then the egg that was in that box was pecked and then this morning same nesting box broken egg just the shell was left...... what should I do? there are golf balls but not in every nest im going to put more in there today

I'm pretty certain I got my first pullet egg. These are the babies that I broody hatched in August. They are crossed with my New Hampshire Roo, Randy. I wasn't sure they would start laying in the middle of winter, but I'd seen some interest in the nesting boxes from them, and yesterday there was a perfect, small little brown egg. This broody hatch was a test run for my buff orpington hen to see if she would carry through for when I order some cool breed eggs from a local hatchery this spring. At least my test is providing us with eggs this winter.

27 weeks. Both pullets have red combs. The ee is squatting for me. I don't know if that is because she is getting close to laying or because the last time she tried to flog me from behind, I spun around and chased her down (she's a little bonkers).

Dang, I want some eggs.

eta - Hattie is squatting whenever I look at her, and somebody messed with the pine needles in the nesting box so much that you couldn't even see the fake egg I had put in there. Hoping these are good signs. . . .

Wooohoo!!! I also got one similar in color today… a new layer for me too! Rounds out the blue and mint my other two are laying! Two more to go!
