First Egg Countdown

I'm about to give up on my girls. 24 weeks. Such red combs and faces. Squatting. Even letting the rooster mate. Nooooooo eggs.
Before you know it you will have eggs coming out the wazoo.

My very first egg was at 19 weeks. And had 3 of 7 laying at 21 weeks. I think 2 more where about by 23 weeks and the last two at about 25 weeks.

I wonder if it has anything to do with diet?

I feed my chicks the chick mash feed for about 4 weeks and then I was like "screw it this is going to get too expensive". So soon after that I got one of the big bags of the 16% protein pellets. And what I did is at about 4-5 weeks I gave them a mix of the chick mash and pellets. 4-1 then the next feeder fill it was 3-1 then 2-1 then 1-1 then 1-2, 1-3, 1-4 then all pellets. All of them have been super healthy so I think what I did was ok?

Plus another thing I did at soon at the first one laid I put a small low watt bulb in the coop on a timer. It came on at about 7 and and off at 10 am then back on at 5 pm and off at 9 pm.

So to sum it up in short you must be very close? If they roam around the yard I would be checking around under bushes and what not. Because at first they might not really get the nesting boxes?

Oh also at 15 weeks I found some rock carved at a garage sale for $1 each so I put one in each nesting box.

LOL a support group!!!

Well I went out today after I woke up around 2 (night shifter) and my usual egg was there and another RSL in the box! Within 10 min I had an egg!!! Enough complaining will do lol! Now if I can just get my BOs and BRs and EEs to lay! :) xoxo

They are just being stubborn. I wish I could have them free range but I live on 5 acres in the middle of no where and predators are everywhere. As a kid we had about 50 chickens that free ranged and my job was to go look for eggs all day and stay out of my moms hair lol. ;)

I feed them layer crumbles. And I do a lot of juicing so they get lots of fruit and veggie pulp.

Like I said. They are just being stubborn. ;-p

So far 24/38 laying! One blue egg, one white, assortments of khaki to sandy and speckled chocolate or speckled white. Some chocolate, some coffee colored :) from large to jumbo!

My Turkey laid her 1st egg yesterday!!! I'm such a goof, I couldn't figure out which chicken laid such a large, strange looking egg!! Lol Too bad my bf accidentally killed her Tom about a month ago, so its not even fertile!! The Tom kept attacking him every time he would turn his back. Is this normal for a turkey? I'd love to get another for her, but I can't have one behaving like that.
I have 2 6 month old BOs and I know 1 has been laying for weeks! Think the other has laid a few. And I got 3 year and a half old BOs almost 2 weeks ago, & they haven't laid a single egg yet. Its driving me NUTS!! I just wormed everyone, so maybe that'll get them laying soon! :/

Congrats! Yep, turkey egg! They are supposed to be delicious. It makes me miss my turkeys, they never got to laying age. I lost 3 to a predator because they were too stupid to go into a coop at night. The other 2 I gave away. They were so friendly, like a dog.

We had to capture her and put her in every night for like 2 weeks before she FINALLY started going in on her own.
