First Egg Countdown

Could be a double yolker, but if not, then they are probably from your Australorps.

My 5 year old BR and Light Brahma have just started laying again. My BR still gave me 5-6 eggs a week last summer.
Hmm, didn't think of the obvious double yolker...I'll open them up for breakfast and see..
Yep, I believe the BA's will continue to give us eggs for awhile yet, we culled the two sex link hens that had quit laying but I'm kinda attached to my Ba's... One is very standoffish, but she is the one that typically goes broody, the other two run to meet me when I head out to the back to feed them.. I believe it is there non fear that has helped all the other chickens, other than the anti social BA I have two EE's that I have had going on a year that have finally started coming closer when I have the scratch grains.. They don't come up to me, but atleast they don't run away and miss out on the morning treats...

I don't feed them much of it, maybe about 1 1/2 cups between 21 chickens but its my way of counting heads and getting a good look at everyone

After joking with my son about Chica, our freeloading NH, and telling him we just might have to eat her if she doesn't lay eggs, I go out for my mid morning egg check and look what I found!!! Yay Chica!

Quote: A good broody is worth a lot! Even if she doesn't lay much. I love hatching under my broodies. (last year I had 10 of them though - it was a bit much!)

Congrats!

OK so about a moth ago i had to get rid of my rooster who started to make lots of noise, then yesterday i dropped an egg it had some blood in it. what does that mean? Does it mean I have a silent rooster or does it happen occasionally?

It happens occasionally when a blood vessel is ruptured while forming the egg. It's called a blood spot.

Yay!! The first of ten pullets gave us an egg today!! Its a light brown, almost pinkish...So exited, Was even better cause the Grandsons got to gather the eggs today!!

Well I'm pretty sure that my Cuckoo Marans FluffyButt is the one laying the rubber eggs. Any day I get a nice thick shelled brown egg there are no rubber eggs but any day I don't, sure enough there's a mess of membrane and yolk outside the boxes. :/ BUT I just went out and found Lucy another CM in the nesting boxes! She's in there panting and turning circles. I think she's working hard on her first egg! So excited! Lucy will make two of my 14 girls laying! They are 23 weeks tomorrow!
