Holy Cow!!! I'm you by the end of summer...lol...

I started 4 years ago with 10.... Got 8 adult hens, two roosters, one cockerel and 10 pullets (wait, maybe that's 11 hens and 7 pullets...anyways, add to that 24 or 26 chicks in the grow out pen and 25 eggs in the bator and I have a slew...that's it...I just have a slew of chickens

Three eggs from my pullets today...although one was a soft shelled laid on the floor of the coop I'm still counting it!!!
Two days in a row I have collected 8 eggs....yippee!!!! Sold two dozen to my neighbor!

Still patiently waiting here for eggs. My sweeties are 26 weeks old yesterday and are slowly getting themselves in gear to lay eggs (hopefully).

Has there ever been a flock wide moratorium on egg laying?

Holy cow! Er... Chicken? You are the most patient person! I'd be out there giving ultimatums! :) My girls were 23 weeks yesterday and they are lucky that two have started laying. Those two keep me from bringing out the cook book!
Can't wait to see you post your first egg! It's got to be soon?

Honestly, I just love them so much I would wait forever for eggs. I really do hope they start laying soon, I'm beginning to worry that something is wrong! Every time I ask them if they will be giving eggs soon I get the stink eye!

edited to add: I can't seem to find out when Hamburgs typically start to lay. They might be right on schedule.

Thank goodness or my family was going to have to deal with a lot of pound cake, angel food cake, custard, ANYTHING that uses a boatload of eggs!

I love broodies, but 10 of them last year was a handful. Of course, I HAD to hatch them - just like I HAVE to hatch in the Easter Hatch-a-long.

Are you close by CA? I have some pullets for sale........seriously.

Yup. The answer is to give up completely, and go buy a bunch of eggs. THEN they will decide to lay eggs.

You think that's bad, try Barnevelders. Waiting 38-40 weeks is not uncommon with them. They are too pretty to have to lay eggs.

Lol!

I DO buy eggs without any thought of waiting on my cute little divas to lay any for me. They tease me daily with new signs that they will begin to lay sometime in the near future.

They walk around with this attitude, you know the one, "Will I lay an egg today? Maybeeeee.....".

This fall will see me gathering numbers like that, It just feels good right now to have to take the egg basket with me to gather

LOL...I'm one state above you which thankfully for the sake of my marriage isn't close enough

It is so hard to wait...been there and have done that for a long, long time it seemed.

Then on the opposite end like someone said it is great to finally have to take a basket to the coop to gather eggs.....

On that same note once they start laying they lay a lot of eggs, if you have a lot of chickens, so it does help to have people buy them or just take them off your hands. I have given a lot away now and so far I have only made $10 since most of the takers are family members, like my sons who could use free eggs since they are just starting out in the world on their own.

Wishing all of you with no eggs or a few eggs a full and plentiful basket soon!

Happy Chooks: I wish I could join in the Easter Egg Hatch. I followed the New Year's Day one and am now following the Easter one too. It looks like so much fun. I am learning so much in the process too. I have too many chickens now but once I have smaller numbers I am hoping to join in the fun too. A couple years down the road for me though. I am so envious!!!!!

The Easter Hatch is fun! You can join in spirit. I have too many chickens too, but oh well!

I love taking a basket to collect eggs, sure beats the pocket scramble. Those of you that have stuck an egg in your coat pocket and have had it break, know what I'm talkin' about.
