My continuing egg saga... my sitters were getting an egg in the morning (which I have NEVER had) and a couple in the evening. We got home from a couple days away Friday evening and found 2 eggs! One in the nest box and one under the roost. This morning I went out to feed breakfast hoping to find that elusive morning egg. NOPE! I didn't get one. But then I went out again around 10 before I had to leave for town and there it was! A morning egg!

The best part of the story though is we got home around 4:00 today and wouldn't you know it?? There were THREE eggs in the nest boxes!! WOOOHOOO!! That means all 4 of my girls are now laying. One of them for sure was a first egg, just as small as the other first eggs we've gotten so far. Well, of course that is assuming that no one laid 2 eggs today LOL!

I saw that photo! We are trying to find a live trap big enough. I think a neighboring ranch may have one we can borrow for a while.

Congratulations on the eggs! I'm pretty sure the two eggs I've found so far have come from the same pullet. They looked exactly alike and even weighed the exact same amount!

We got our first EE egg for my daughters birthday yesterday! I'm not sure if it is from her pet or my sons pet, though. Is there a way to tell physically besides catching them laying? I know how to tell if an older hen is laying much anymore but this is pretty much the exact opposite haha!!
My daughters is the one who has been matured longer has been more interested in the nesting boxes but my sons squats more and is becoming even more pet like more quickly. It's a pretty somewhere between mint and olive green!! Our first colored egg, having four white Leghorns and a Brown one (she's the same age -29.5 wks-as the EEs) who lay for quite a while.

Congratulations! What a fun birthday present!

I don't know how to tell who has laid an egg, we have 13 pullets right now and somebody is laying, but I'm not sure who it is (I have my suspicions).

You'd have to catch her on the nest.

For young pullets, you can tell who is laying by feeling the space between their pelvic bones. A non layer will have 1-2 finger widths, a layer will have 2-3 finger widths. Of course, it depends on the size of your hands too.

Yay congrats!
I have heard from others you could use food coloring to see which chicken is laying what egg. You have to put a few drops of food coloring in their vent. I have never done this but others say it works. :confused:
 
Just got my 1st EE at a chicken swap Saturday. She's 8 months old. Was excited to see her eggs soon, but know the stress would mean it would be awhile. But this morning, I got it!!! My 1st little green egg!!! Its so cute!!
