First Egg Countdown

Me too!! My bf makes fun of me all the time. I'll be going around back and he will ask where I'm going. I'll be like, " to play with my chickens. Duh"

That's so funny! At this point my sweetie just says "Chicken time?". There can be no making fun of me because the chickens were not my idea...Oh, wait, that makes me prime bait for all sorts of jokes. Oh, well. It's worth it!

I got another egg today (makes 4 all together), this time from Amber, her first! All of the eggs I've gotten have been between 1.1 and 1.3 oz. , but my chickies are of the smaller variety, so I expected this.

They all like a certain nesting box. Everybody that has laid an egg has laid it in the same box. So cute!

YAY! Today was the first time I came home to 4 eggs all at once from my 4 girls. Mine also lay in the same box! We had one normal store sized egg today and the rest are still small. My monster 3" long egg from the other day did in fact turn out to be a double yolker!

Oh, wow!

I can only imagine what it will be like to get an egg from each of my sweeties on the same day! With 13 pullets, I'll probably fall over! Lol!



Edited to add: 3" long? Wow, wow, wow!

Ours are only about 2" long at most, so I can't even think about one that big!

I went out there to say goodbye to them while I head to a 4 hour shift at work, checked the nest box for the sheer sake of curiosity and right there, a small little Egg next to the Golf ball I had placed in there to train them where to lay! It was still warm... So must have been recent, as there was none this morning!

Here it is!



No idea which hen it is, but I have ma rough idea who it could be, Hopefully another tommorrow!

Yay! I just went to hang out with my chickies for a bit and found a second egg for the day!!! First time that's happened! Not sure who laid it, but it had to be after 3:00 PM because I was out there at that point. So I now have proof that more than one pullet is laying.

Guilty here too. When I need a break from the kids, I go hang out in the coop, sit on the lowest roost and enjoy the quiet.

Having empty nest syndrome and not having my grandsons with me each and everyday ( I love the little guys but Nanny did her time

) its nice to go out there and have all 21 run to the fence with there welcome, hurry up, what did you bring us, were so happy to see you greetings..... Even the chicks in the grow out pen have started gathering at the window as soon as they see me and chirping... I know they just want food but its still fun to see everyone fall over each other to get to me first

Another egg here today! The poor girl needed to lay while I had them out free ranging, she literally ran around for 1 1/2 hours looking for a place to lay! We have 8 nesting boxes, some in the coop and some outside of it, but she couldn't decide where to lay. She would go in and out of them scratching around, and even trying out a spot on our porch behind some plywood we have leaning up against the house. Lol!

She eventually made her way back to the same box where everyone has laid their eggs so far to lay, running as fast as she could but looking like she was trying to hold it in. I actually watched her lay it, amazing!

This is a picture of some of the eggs we've gotten over the last few days. They're beautiful!
