That is quite a change from before. You could put some oyster shell out for them & see how interested they are. I tend to think if they eat it, they need it to make egg shells.

My daughter found our second egg early this morning.

It was next to the food, so I'm off to stock up on golf balls to encourage laying in a nest.

Based on what I have read, Brahmas mature very slowly, however one of the two pullets I have (they are 12.5 weeks), has a red face and wattles most of the day. I am saying most of the day because sometime when I check her in the morning, its pink just like the other pullet. What could be going on? Hormonal surges? Getting ready to lay in a few weeks? or maybe she is not a pullet after all? She looks like a pullet from every other aspect. This is her picture from 10 days ago followed by her sister's pic. Even in this pic, she had slightly darker pink on her face.

I'm no expert, but I think that it's totally normal for the redness to fluctuate. I do think its female for sure. My laying hens seem to be much redder when they haven't layed yet for the day, and sometimes a bit paler on cloudy sunless days. Sunlight, hormones, I'm sure it's all related. Really beautiful pullet, I love Brahmas and those feathered legs!

Brahma's are typically slow maturing, but hatchery birds will mature faster than non-hatchery birds. A lot of factors can affect comb color - molting, heat, maturity, broodies, etc.

I just got my first two eggs and I wasn't even on a countdown, I've lost track of weeks due to work and when i went to give them water today i found my first two! I was so happy I ran to the house to show my mom.

I just checked and there 19 weeks old right now.
