First Egg Countdown

I managed to catch my lady Ginger in the act today ..she just hasn't laid in the nesting boxes so far but lays everyday now for one week

Ha! She looks like she doesn't want to be disturbed.

I didn't crowd her space and stare too much but I sure as heck wanted to see her in action ...I zoomed in on her with my phone ...I kinda figured she'd want privacy while she did her business like a lady would

Got a new layer today!

This will make 4 of my 6 hens that are in business. Hope the other two will join the crowd this week. I had picked up an egg on my morning check. I went out to check early this afternoon and when I peeked inside the coop, there was one on the nest and one standing around like she was waiting her turn (two other boxes not occupied, of course!). When I went back later, they were all out in the run and I had two eggs in the "favored" box and one in the middle box.

An interesting sideline, to me at least, is the continued re-appearance of a round wooden ball that I had put in there to help them know where to lay the eggs. I have knocked it out several times, but SOMEONE keep putting it back in the nest. Have the ladies just adopted the wooden ball? Today when I picked up the two eggs in the "favored" box, there was the wooden ball!

We got our first egg yesterday!! No idea who layed it as it was in the run and not in the nest boxes which are recorded by my wifi camera.

we got our first green egg today!!!

I ate egg #2 today without telling my kids there was egg #2 I told them we'd wait until we had three before eating any of them.

One of my RIR was hanging out uncomfortably on top of the nest boxes for over 30min while everyone else was out in the run. There was a big ruckus coming from the chickens and I decided to investigate. Rosie/Root Beer (can't figure who's who) was still in the coop. I was starting to get concerned that she was ill. I picked her up and felt the egg inside her. I held her for a bit and massaged the area hoping she wasn't egg bound. When I put he down she hid by the feeder and laid an egg for me. It was so fresh, that I couldn't resist. I took it straight to the kitchen and fried it. I'm going to guess this was her first egg, and the first one we got was not from her but from our Lavendar orp????? First egg on the left, breakfast on the right.

aren't they fun? Yours is a lovely shade of green. I get a light green like a mint green from our ee. I can't wait to get 1 or 2 more ee!
