Thank you, but I am sure they would rather be free range - wish we could let them out, but we are in the predator-filled woods, not to mention all the neighborhood dogs including ours

Thanks Ron! I hatched them all from my own stock so I can't blame anyone LOL. I just need to come to the realization they are freeloaders

Nah, I am sure they will start soon but sheesh, this patience thing is killing me! Each day on the way home from work I think to myself, "Today is the day there will be 10 eggs in the nesting box!" If just half of them start laying I'd be happy. It hasn't happened yet but I haven't given up hope!

Hope our girls get to laying soon!

I know the feeling. I got two that I feel should be laying but alas they are not. My luck they will start to lay while I am away on vacation this next weekend. If they do the eggs will be in my frig when I get here for I have a friend that will be watching for me.

When we give up, that's when we'll get the egg. I'm betting that my 19 week old olive egger is going to beat the barnevelders and lay first.

Okay. all of my girls are now 25 wks old
The 2 Red Stars have been laying for over 3 weeks
The 2 Delawares have been laying for about 3 weeks
My EE has been checking out the nest boxes for over a month, has a nice red face but...no eggs, can't get close enough to see if she squats
My 2 Speckled Sussex aren't squating and aren't interested in the nest box, combs are there, but not showing any rapid growth

The 4 layers have been keeping me in eggs, so I've been okay, but I'm starting to get a bit impatient! I especially want to see what I get from Love (the EE).
I want more eggs!!!

Take heart! After finding the first egg this morning, there were TWO eggs in there! Camilla must have laid her first one yesterday, because there was another white one as well as a light brown one! Both tiny, a little smaller than the first. I'm guessing Lil'Buff laid the brown one, because she's the next most ready-seeming.

I have 12 hens and only get 4 eggs a day. Unless mine are hiding some. My husband keeps saying it's like easter everyday when we are looking for eggs. I don't find it a bit funny.

So after my ranting and raving, yesterday I found a beautiful little blue egg in the middle of the patio. It looks as if the girl who laid it was going about her business as usual, had an "OMG" moment and popped the darn thing out right where she stood LOL. In my experience with my other girls, right before they laid their first egg they were frantic, looking for the perfect spot (one even pushed open the screen door that wasnt closed all the way and laid her first egg on the dog bed in my family room--go figure my surprise when I found that egg!).

So that is 3 out of 20 down...maybe today will be the day the other 17 start too...or maybe not LOL!
