AND, the best part - in the nest, not in the middle of the run! I am SO PROUD! Sitting very intentionally, in the nest!!

Two eggs so far, 18 hens, 19 weeks old.

Congrats!

I have another first as well too.... just not an egg being laid. I am going on a camping trip and for the first time I've used my eggs to bribe someone into giving me fishing gear!

Yay for trade and barter! Yay for free fishing poles! Yay for chickens!!!

Nice! I love camping! I hope you aren't going somewhere local seeing that you are in Boise. I bet it is already getting cold in your neck of the woods.

Have fun and relax--that is what camping is about!

Boise actually stays really warm throughout the year since we're shielded by mountains on most sides. Plus we're technically high desert.

I'm actually going to Yellowstone for the first time in my life (so excited!), but luckily only the nights will be cold. We're bringing lots of blankets and such.

22-25 week age range on my girlies and STILL NO EGGS. I see lots of cockerel loving going on and they aren't always running away (although they don't seem especially thrilled by him either). Everyone is done with the juvenile molting and lots and lots of red combs -- even the "less mature" looking EE pullets that the cockerel was denying his affections have started looking red and he's suddenly interested in two out of the three. So where are those eggs?! I've had them on predator lock-down because there are two abandoned dogs running amok (AGAIN!) so I know the eggs aren't in the forest...

Yay, I got my 1st egg from my 22 week NHR! I got 2 eggs from my Cornish Rock but then I read that they shouldn't live that long cause of health problems....so I had to do the deed. Anyway I was as happy as a kid on Xmas morning! Then I left it in the nest so my 2 girls could find it! The looks on their faces were PRICELESS! oh I love my pullets!

3 from 9 girls!!!! But, two of them are new layers, and of course, we are away and the person checking on our girls found them. Oh well!!!!

Sugar and Spice are really red but I am not seeing any squats at all. The rest of the pullets are starting to get red and I am starting to think the twins are not going to lay to next spring. The weather is start to cool down here. With my luck I will have some first eggs over this weekend for I leave tomorrow morning for the weekend.
