Quote:
Aw, I'm sorry to hear you're sick Happy Chooks. I hope you feel better soon!

I'm late in posting, our Plymouth Rock had her first egg just under 24 weeks. Neighbor said their was a small egg when he collected and shut them up for us as we were away. Well, took another week and finally got another from her, took another week for me to post. So technically not our first and of good size at 67 grams. Took her another week to lay daily.

And here is Rosa at 26 weeks and 2 days. Has a weird split in comb but we like her.

Still waiting on the Orpington and Orp cross, they'll be 27 weeks old Sunday.

I will join the countdown. I have 3 cochin bannys who are 20 weeks and they are starting to go into the box and scratch around a little. I hope they plan on laying soon. We have 14 others who are a ways off still.

I'm not used to those itty bitty things they call bantams!! (too much hawk bait here)

Well, I'm jumping back in here. My girls are all 19-20 weeks old and I haven't seen an egg yet! Their combs and wattles are red, but I don't think I've seen "the squat" yet. We'll keep waiting and hoping!

Got home from work early today, and look what I found!!!!!!

My four girls (SLW, BO, BLRW, & JG) along with three others that I "brooded" for 8 weeks, were hatched on May 1st. The three foster girls (RIR, BR, & BO) started laying (at least the first two of them) on Sept. 23rd, at 20 weeks old. So, mine are now 23 weeks old. I have been on this site on a daily basis, searching for answers to questions like, "is the egg song real?," and what is "squatting?" I was even 50 pages into this thread just last night, looking for what to look for while waiting....you know... And lo and behold, the wait is over! Not sure who laid it....but Agnes, my JG, is the most vocal, has the biggest, brightest red wattles and comb, and has been squatting for a week now. I kind of doubted it could be Agnes, since Jersey Giants are supposed to be the slowest to mature. And Florrie, my BLRW, has the fluffiest bottom and underskirts of all of them. So, who knows? Not me! That's for sure! Figuring it all out will be the next puzzle to learn about. I'm just so excited! I've been doing a bit of crowing myself!
