First Egg Countdown

My gold sex link is in the nest as we speak she has been in the nest box all for over an hour. She is trying to push an egg out........ I HOPE :)
My Easter Egger "Practiced" for a couple of days before she laid her first egg. She sang the egg song more than 5 times one day and did not lay an egg. She did lay one the next day, but I was at work. The first one was in the middle of the coop. The rest have been in the nest box.

You should have your first egg soon!

I wanna join the "egg waiting game".. I have one Easter Egger who is 16 weeks old, 3 Buff Orpington Hens and 4 RIR Hens that are 15 weeks old. In addition, I have 4 Barred Rock Hens who are 13 Weeks old. Plus 2 Black Sexlinks, 1 rhode Island White, 2 Buff Orpington Bantams, and 2 Silkie mixes who are 10 weeks old... I am dying to see some eggs, but I'm sure it's going to be a little bit.. :( So ready to have my own fresh eggs for breakfast :)...

No egg for me yet.. I think she is not feeling well.. Been in the coop mostly for days.. laying in the nest box. She came outside finally yesterday after 2 days.. She is eating drinking and pooping like normal. Crop feels fine. No runny eyes comb is fine. She is just moving a little slower than normal. She is making soft almost cooing sounds but not bawking or even really clucking at all. Does not feel like there is anything hard in her tummy. Maybe she is just sensitive to the changes she is going through. She is more active in the coop today than she has been. She is eating good. I dont know what is up with her. Maybe she is premenstral. HAHA

This all sounds fairly normal. They become friendlier before they lay. Next she will start re arranging the nest box.

Thanks Ron. I was beginning to worry about her.. But she just came out again tonight got a few treats and bugs and went back into the coop. She is just not the same as she was. :)

I heard the egg song this evening when all 8 were in their coop. No eggs but I heard it.. :) No idea who did it either as all of them were inside.. Darn it haha.

One of my big girls did that last night when it was getting dark outside. Sometimes they do the egg song when one of the other chickens lays an egg.

Silly chickens! They had me looking in the nest boxes in the dark last night and of course there was no egg.

Yes it's hilarious when they announce for another hen. I've seen my friend's RIR hen raise a ruckus for an HOUR after another hen laid. I almost wanted to throw a clod of dirt at her (we were gardening) and tell her to stop being such a primadonna!

My silly Faverolle girl is pacing and looking unhappy with the world, but no eggs yet *sigh*

I'm waiting on 6 almost 19 week old pullets to begin laying. Then I have 4 10 week old pullets after that. (But 2 are barnevelders, so they will take FOREVER to start laying)

And my broody just hatched out chicks on 5/30. My coop is bursting at the seams. (and shhhhh, don't tell the DH that the turkey order is coming soon)

I have two red sex links that are 16 weeks and a silkie, barred rock and dominique that are 13 weeks. I'm going crazy waiting for eggs! I simply can't wait!

Anyways, I love all the pictures of everyone's girls and their first eggs. It's so exciting.

Here are my two red sex links(16 weeks). I'll post pics of my three other girls when they get closer to laying age.

Woo Hoo! We have our first egg!!!!! Ginger, the darker red sex link that has been squatting for 5 days laid a tiny, perfect egg in the nest box this morning. The funny thing is that she didn't lay in the nest box she's been inspecting. We are so excited and proud over here!

She tore apart the nest box. I guess she didn't like the idea of newspaper under the pine shavings...lol

An updated pic of ginger at 18 weeks
