First Egg Countdown

Pele, You have also been a wonderful source of inspiration, excitement, and support for us first eggers. We all appreciate you too! Congratulations on the wedding planning. Who is getting married? I just remarried last year. I had been a widow for 8 years and was lucky enough to find someone who loves me again. It was so much fun doing all the planning. I was a DYI er for the most part. I bought the dress from a resale shop and a good friend did the photography. The only professionals I hired was for the cake, the food, and the band, but the band was friends of ours and they did it really cheap. So we had a beautiful Ranch Wedding for around $8000. Still pretty costly but nothing compared to alot of weddings these days. Have fun with it and thank you for this thread! It has been so much fun chatting with people here and seeing their first eggs as well as their beautiful chooks!

Hugs, Kimberly

Greenfire is where they all came from last year. If you get the from Mary, AKA the Sheriff from Auburn Ca, you will get pure Greenfire eggs for less. She has them now. I will have them in the Fall. Some from other sources may be mixed or not pure. Mary also has Blue Isbars and they lay a pretty green egg.

They are very pretty birds!

I have the itch so bad! I want eggs. I deserve eggs. GIVE ME EGGS.

I am going to keep the girls in the coop and run for a couple of days to make sure I am not missing where/if they are laying when free ranging. Any ideas for treats or games for them to do while they are in there? The older girls begin picking on the young girls after even half a day of being locked in. I want to keep them safe but also want the layers to get the hint about laying inside the coop.

How about keeping just the older/laying ones in the hen house where they can't peck the younger ones?

Aw, thanks Kimberly! You're so sweet, and your wedding sounds like it was beautiful! I'm actually the one getting married, and my family lives scattered all over the country, so I'm doing 99.999% of the planning myself. It is amazing how much you can cut costs if you are willing to take the extra time and pitch in some elbow-grease isn't it? Just the other day I banged my head agaist the wall over invitations for a good 5 hours (home printers are the devil for non 8x10 card-stock), but it saved me a cool grand (plus I get to have them 'just so' and not irritate anyone but myself about it :p ).

As far as this thread goes, I'm just really happy that everyone enjoys the agony and ecstasy of that first-egg wait as much as I do. And I'm especially happy for everyone who has been so helpful and supportive, like HappyChooks and Ron. You make the thread wonderful!

Oh! I just read the Greenfire question. They have awesome lines and awesome birds!

. The only issue is that they can get a bit pricey.

For me this is one of my all time favorite threads

I am very happy that Pele started it and love the work she puts into it.

Happy Chooks is the best too!

Pele: My Best to you with the wedding plans! I hope all goes well with everything.

Btw, my second Faverolle is finally getting with the program almost 26 weeks in! Finally her face is getting red and she's being loud in the mornings. Sheesh I thought she was broken or something!
