First Egg Countdown!!

my first egg FINALLY after 8 weeks of feeding my MMc pullets Betty White came in with a beautiful tiny 1 3/8 oz blue green egg!

I am in heaven!

We are getting 2 eggs a day. Today we found Big Red on the nest so we know the coloring of her shell. It is a Mahogany reddish brown, beautiful shell. The other egg came from Blondie. She has a lot of light feathers along with her red feathers. She is a beauty. Her shell was a blondish brown. Henny hasn't laid yet. She is the smallest of the flock. The other red, named Vanilla hasn't laid yet. My grandson is enjoying the eggs.

Yay for first eggs!!! We just got our first egg yesterday, it was adorable!! 3 of our girls just reached 20 weeks, and one is at 19 but to be honest I wasn't expecting one so soon even though 3 of them have been doing a LOT of crouching and are quite red-faced.

No egg today yet, I'm thinking all our chicken-watching made them shy. . .

Keep the faith PrairieK! The eggs will be so much better when greatly anticipated!

My English Orps are 17 weeks today. I've noticed that their redness has faded. Anybody know if this is potentially from heat? It's gotten in mid 90s lately. My older Austrolorp is now laying in the evening and my newly started BR has now missed 2 days in a row. I feel like I am going backwards.

I think that heat stress can stop, or at least slow down laying.

Ok, so I think at least 3 of my girls are laying. We made cookies tonight with some of the first eggs (always the plan so I could bring in and share with my co-workers). I noticed that one of the eggs was a double "yolker". I have researched and it sounds like this is not uncommon with young pullets. I hope it isn't a sign of future problems.

I will be stalking tomorrow hoping to figure out which girls are laying. Wish me luck! My teenage boys have a charity car wash for High School football which is interfering with my stalking!

I got my first egg from one of my Leghorns last week

the little white one.

Today I got a little almost purple looking egg. Probably from my RSL I haven't taken a pic of it yet. I think I'm going to set up my trail cam in the coop so I know who's laying.

I too have been waiting anxiously. I have 10 girls ranging from 11 weeks to 17.5 weeks. My buff orpingtons are the oldest but I think my australorps will lay first. Crossing my fingers for an egg soon! I can't wait!

We realized we were getting a little behind on consuming eggs yesterday and my son asked me to make some deviled eggs. Boiled them and discovered when I sliced them open that one was a double yolker. Made for a funny looking deviled egg. But they were tasty. It's interesting how very orange the yolks are compared to store-bought - even the antibiotic and hormone free ones, like from Eggland's Best.

Today makes week 21 for the two oldest Australorps and we are on our third egg. Pretty sure they are all for the same hem but who knows.
