My favorite girl Bessie laid our first egg ever today just moments ago!!! I went out to see them as a frequently do and noticed she was nowhere to be found. I went into the coop and there she was inspecting her work singing her song!!! (Now we just have to work on using the nesting boxes). My 6 month old son Thomas is equally as excited as me!

What kind of chicken is she? She kinda looks like my Black Stars (Black sex link), but I've never had that white coloring throughout it. Looks like a roost egg. Is the roost right above there? Probably surprised her in the middle of the night.

Either way.... CONGRATS ON THE FIRST EGG!!!!!!
Thank you!! Well she was sold from TSC as a sliver laced wyandotte (which she clearly isn’t), after researching my best guess is black sex link. It is a roost egg, but wasn’t there late morning around 11am as I went in to feed water and scoop poop. I guess she went onto the roost and was surprised like you said.
