First egg!! Is it a chick?

Hi! first time chicken mama here! We found our first egg in the coop today! We do have a rooster, and my son expects chicks to be inside the egg lol. Do I assume it’s fertilizer? There is no hen sitting on it during the day?

If there is a rooster, chances are its fertilized. There wont be a chick inside it unless a hen sits on it or its been in a incubator.

Yes, it’s likely fertile, but THERE WILL BE NO CHICKS UNLESS YOU INCUBATE FOR 21 DAYS AT OVER 95° F!!!!!!!

So I read somewhere that the hen make take up to 7 days to sit on it because she’s going to lay more eggs?

I will have to do this when my son isn’t around lol he’s very adamant about hatching a chick lol is it possible my hens matured faster then my roo?

Not all hens will brood.

Your hens may or may not go broody, and it will be in their own time.
