Congrats on the first egg! I'm eagerly awaiting our first one... My girls are 12-13 weeks. So close, yet so far away!

That egg looks quite soiled, like perhaps it was laid on the floor... under the roosts? Sometimes floor eggs can be soiled to the point that they do get contaminated with bacteria.

I too spot clean mine, removing any serious soiled spots only and I refrigerate...float testing even a month out, mine have been ok...sell most of mine and my customers seem to like refrigerated eggs that are at least spot cleaned. But not cleaning them is totally acceptable, I just have my own preference ...That first egg is super exciting. It keeps getting better! Wait til you see that crazy big egg that has 2 yolks! I remember reading somewhere that room temp is generally considered to be ~72—76 deg. F.
Of course that’s assuming that most people have coolers and furnaces that keep their home at a relatively consistent temperature year-round.
When I lived in AZ, room temp was nearly always ~75–76.... but now living in WA, it varies between 67-68 in the winter, and 74-75 in the summer.

Very interesting - but what temperature is "room temperature"? Where does that come from??

I just happened to stumble on this ratio tonight. The 1 day to 1 week is coming from Storey’s Guide to Raising Chickens. In the Fourth Edition, it happens to be on page 211. They don’t make a reference to what room temperature is, though. Anyway, just thought I’d share since I was reading through the book and came across it.

Ah ha! Someone knows! Room temperature in my house in the summer is 80 degrees. In the winter it's 68 degrees. Just because we aren't made of money so A/C and heat are limited and we are used to it. I sell my eggs so I refrigerate them as soon as I collect them. Thanks for the reference!
