So I got my fist flock about 16 weeks ago. I have 5 Guineas, 3 Red sexlinks (I think two of which are roosters), 8 Buff orpingtons. I started letting them free range about 4 weeks ago, I’m outside working in the yard most of the day. I have lost no chickens but I did take out a bobcat early this week. Anyway working in the yard with my sheep today and I had to take my big texas hat off (scares the sheep
) once finished the I noticed the chickens where very curious about my hat on the ground. I went over to pick it up and noticed an egg next to it! Now I think I would have noticed the egg if it was there before but I did kinda have my hands full with the sheep. I’ve never had chickens before and never had farm fresh eggs. This egg seams way smaller then a store bought which I’ve read here should change as they mature. But the color is cream with brown speckling. Between that odd color and size I’m not sure it’s from my chickens any help guys and gals would be greatly appreciated. Please note this was in a dirt patch not really what I would consider a nesting area. The only other bird I’m aware of in the area to lay something this size are Mississippi Kites that migrate here in the spring every year which is pretty fun to have around.
