First egg of 2022!

I walked out. The ladies were free-ranging, and the only one missing was my dear Dominique Pepper, the one who is obviously my layer.
She wasn’t in the comfy, straw-filled nest, which scared the crap out of me.
I was pacing about, wondering where on earth she could be, when I heard the scrape of claws on wood right above me.
We have a 10- ft tall wooden deck, attached to our house.

Miss Pepper climbed up all those stairs, all the way up, so she could nest in our Christmas tree.View attachment 2953451View attachment 2953453View attachment 2953455
Ahhh that’s so cute!! Look at her in there all snuggled up! She just need a hot cocoa to warm her up some 🥰 3 of my free loaders just started laying within the last 3 weeks! My big girl Elinor is so consistent now that she’s laying! 5 days of 7 for two weeks now 😍 And I have three more that just started squatting and checking out nest boxes 🤞🏻🤞🏻 So exciting!

It really is exciting isn't it?? My adult granddaughter is usually the one to find and collect the eggs. 2 of our 4 hens just started laying so it's fun. Today her boyfriend went looking and found the 2nd one.
Oddly they are using a totally different set of nesting boxes than before. We had bought a small coop in the beginning of our chicken life last year and since we had the bigger coop built they have totally abandoned it. But that is where both hens have been laying their cute little eggs. It is more private then the ones they've been using. Hey. Ad long as they are happy

Can anyone tell me..How long can eggs be left out, unwashed before they go bad? Ive heard once you wash them they need to be refrigerated.
Thanks!!

It really is! Every time :) I have been told that unwashed they can be on the counter for 3-4 weeks, but washed they need to go into the fridge.

I read similar things too. Ive gifted 2 dozen so far to my neighbors, explaining that theory and to wash them before eating them.
I found the cutest egg holder by Pioneer Woman!! It is ceramic and holds 15 eggs. So far trying to get one has been difficult as they are always out of stock. They're like $13.00 at Walmart and $20+ at Amazon...probably why Walmart is selling out.
