My birthday was 2/26. One of my sapphire gems had been making these honking noises looking very impatient days before running around so I looked into that and found out it could take a week for her to lay after she starts making those noises so I wasn’t expecting Her to lay one so soon but I put her in the new coop with the nesting boxes so she could have some privacy and get away from my two Roosters, along wiith a few others I thought were about ready, the next morning I went to let them out as usual and lo and behold....

The nest morning she laid another one which came out perfect, the shape was more egg shaped than the first. She hasn’t laid another one since than hoping this is normal? Also now that I’m at the store picking up a bag of layer feed do I replace the layer feed for all hens ? Or just the one who laid already?

She hasn’t laid an egg since Wednesday. Is that normal? I’m having trouble getting her and the rest of the hens that are ready to lay to sleep in the coop (with the nesting boxes) at night, she keeps going to the old coop which is like a shanty I made out of a dog cage there’s really no where for her to lay an egg without it getting stepped on or pecked at I’m sure , i do have a crate laid on its side that they perch on top of and are able to go under for SOME privacy but not really much. It has been getting pretty cold at night and the shanty coop is insulated with and is heated, the new coop I was not going to put a heat source in because I figured it would be warmer weather by the time they needed it but they definitely need it now but refuse to go inside. I don’t know what to do really. When she laid her first egg, she actually escaped through the run early i the morning and I woke up to her wondering around so I put her in the nest box and she laid her egg, the next night I put her and my other sapphire in there together plus one more hen, they slept in there and she laid another. The next day, I did the same thing but no egg, I just feel like with that first egg if she needed to get out of there THAT BAD TO DO THIS HOUDINI ESCAPE than what if she needs to but can’t? The temperature was also a little warmer probably by 20 degrees or so when she laid to the temps it has been here in ny. I’m new to this so just trying to figure out the whole egg laying process and love my chickens so I don’t want them to be in any kind of discomfort.
