First egg questions!!!

Just keep pulling the eggs and you have more to incubate, instead of your standard 8-13 cluch. But stick to the 7 day rule, "dont keep eggs longer than 7 days, after that hatching rates drop"

Didn't know that about the 7 day rule. Thanks. She keeps laying them sporadically so I haven't really had enough to collect to incubate. I'm hoping she starts laying more regularly soon.

Yes, there is a 7 day rule but not necessarily true. I hatched the very first 13 eggs of the season and had a 100% hatch. Just depends. I even refrigerated some of them for 2 weeks and took them out and put them in the incubator and they hatched as well. ;)

BTW, thanks for saying where you live. If everybody would state where they live, giving advise would be a lot easier!!

Thanks again. I guess I will have to try it out and see what works for us. I'm gonna aim for 7-10 days and see what happens.

Glad I mentioned where I live too. Thought it might make a difference since we are in the middle of a very cold winter and winter here is much different than say winter down south.

I'm gonna start another post because I'm not sure who reads older posts but I think I found a culprit for my lack of eggs. I mentioned that I thought my hen was laying sporadically but I found a flying squirrel in my coop today. I hear they are notorious for eating eggs! Another local farmer was just telling my husband about a flying squirrel eating all his chicken eggs. UGH, little buggers. Need to figure out how to get rid of them!
