I have 6 leghorns, 3 red non-descript TSC pullets and 3 giant jerseys. I found our first egg on 07/07/2013, The second egg a few days later. Found 2 today. I have an outside perch about 6 feet off of the ground. a 6" x 1" x 10' that they love. Over the weekend I found one on the ground under the perch and part of the shell laying near by. /The membrane wasn't broken. I am sure that one laid it when they were on the perch. Being that they are under 18 weeks do you think that they could have tried to drop one there from the perch? Since they are so young, could they have just sorta dropped it out by accident? I have baskets on their sides under a bench like structure in the chicken coop. They prefer to lay under the bench, not in the basket. So I moved the basket and they are quite happy laying on the straw on the floor in the corner under the bench.

I am very happy to hear that. Thank you for your response! Hey the rain stopped! Maybe now the chicken pond will go back to being the chicken pen. LOL

i have been finding a tan soft shelled egg a couple mornings. just one. this morning in the pen i found this egg and a yolk about six feet away.any ideas? i broke it or should i say pinched it open. no yolk. the tail on this egg was slightly open and egg white oozing out. all my girls are 16-18 wks old. they free range, have a bowl of oyster shell, purina pellets and treats from the house. like peas, meal worms, corn, grapes, spinach, lettuce, raisins, etc. this egg was not much more like a water balloon
