First egg TODAY!!!

I have missed a few of the first soft shelled eggs...the first I caught them eating, stopped that really fast...mine just started laying last week or so...already gave away a dozen of the pullet eggs...now I am dealing with jumbo and regular sized...I used a double yolker last night! So exciting! Yeah...

lol a rooster that doesn't crow would be like a hen that doesn't lay.
I love the sound reminds me of when I was a kid:)

oooh, so exciting to think that in just over a week they'll already start being big eggs! this is our first week and we got 7 eggs in 8 days from 2-3 chickens. I don't know if there are 1 or 2 barred rocks laying, but one of our black Australorps laid her first today

all of the br eggs were perfect shaped, but the ba egg was a little oblong, but at least all the eggs are nicely hard shelled and clean

I'm just so proud of my girls.

has anyone else with newly laying hens and just matured roosters noticed any correlation between sexual activity and when they lay? because of the mixed flock (boys/girls/chickens/turkeys/guineas) I let everything but the hens and maybe one roo out of the coop in the morning for about 45 min so they can get some peace, eat, and drink, before a day of getting chased. this morning I let all the roos out and the hens told me off, jumping in the windows and crying for Roofus!! anyways, usually after a little sex, they go jump in the nest box, not necessarily successfully, but they do go act like they are trying to lay. just wondered if the sex stimulated the reproductive tract or something...

Does anyone think it could be the heat that is delaying egg production? My girls are over 23 weeks old so far only one egg, & I think it got scared out of the poor chicken.

The heat is definitely making a difference. My Golden Comet started laying during a cool spell, and then it got really hot again, and she stopped for several days. Now that the mornings are much cooler, she seems to be back on schedule.

yay!!!!! biskets and eggs for breakfast!!! nothing is like having your very own eggs from your front yard. congrats on your egg!! its all down hill from here
