I incubated my first batch of quail eggs back in June, so they'll be 7 weeks old Saturday, August 7th. One of them laid an egg today.
This is so exciting, bringing life into the world, and then being able to watch them grow, and then AN EGG!!!!!!
The next day I separated my roos from my hens. There are 17 total in that batch. I was dead certain 7 of them are roos. The other 10 I was certain 8 were hens, kinda iffy bout the other 2, so I kept those 10 together. I have been getting 9 eggs a day for the past week!!
Not bad, huh? Now, I just gotta go back thru them and find that other roo, lol. He needs to go in the freezer pen with the other 7.
I have 50 eggs go on lockdown today, am hoping for a better live-hatch rate than last time. I made a few mistakes last time, it being my first. Now that I know just how finicky quail are, I think I have a better chance this go-round.
Yeah, I think I'm addicted.....
