Same I'm very impressed with my 2 laying girls! One started laying a week ago and the other started laying the next day. Neither of them have taken a break. I'm so impressed! And their eggs are already size large!

Can everyone note breed of chicken and how old for me? Im new to chickens and anxiously awaiting my first egg. Im going out of town for a couple weeks and I just know it will probably happen while Im gone. I dont have traditional "early layers" but some are showing signs. I have Cream Legbar, Welsummer, FBCM, barred rock, silver penciled rock, buff rock, and a buff cochin ranging in age from 17 to about 14 weeks. I hope they hold out another few weeks so I can be there for first egg. Im more worried about a complication when Im not home. Thanks all!

Mine are red sexlinks. I also have barred rocks that are showing signs of laying. They are almost nineteen weeks.

I have isa brown pullets 16.5 weeks old, none laying yet but one awful interested in the nesting box

If you pick up eggs daily you are fine....Winter it can be a problem with eggs freezing, you might need to collect more often. "Fresh" eggs can sit out on your counter for about two weeks and still be good. I've heard even as long as 30/60 days. I personally use up my eggs in about a week or so. If not I give them away, so that's not an issue, for me.

Wow I had no idea they would last that long I make sure to get them every day because I have two roosters also and really don't want any more checks right now at least

Merrymouse, I have a cochin mix and two EE's. They all started laying within a few days of 5 months.
