I was just outside cleaning/re-haying the nesting box(we’re waiting for our first egg from our rir) and after I was done I went into the run and was just petting the chickens when I saw an egg! I was wondering if it is safe to eat. Here it is!:

Beautiful!
Such a deep color!

I routinely find one of my girls eggs out in the run.
She gets in the nesting box but I think she pops up before " she's done". Then I think it sticks to her floofy butt while it's still wet, and falls off as she's jumping off the ramp and heading back out to play. ( at least this is what I THINK is happening lol, since I've never seen her sitting in the run!)
Some sand-dirt muckety-muck can just be gently brushed or wiped off dry.

There is a lot of discussion on either side of the egg washing issue. Just make sure if you do wash them, you use water that is hotter than the temperature of the egg to prevent germs from from being sucked into the interior of the shell.

Exactly right. I have a Leghorn that does this occasionally also. I’ve confirmed your thought this week - sometimes she just jumps the gun and the egg sticks. Becomes a “floor egg” but really isn’t that originally

Any way to fix that? The other day I quietly closed the door to the coop so she couldn't escape so quickly!
She's just a chicken who hates to leave the party and runs in at the last minute to lay, then dashes back out a minute later!
Lots of times her egg gets cracked if it whacks down on the edge of the ramp which is a darn shame, she's a welsummer and her eggs are positively gorgeous.
It often winds up being brought inside and cooked for them. ( which they love!)

Hey guys! Sorry I haven’t replied in a while, she has been laying consistently(almost every single day) in the nesting boxes but we’re still waiting for the the old 5 girls to lay. We think Ember’s bestie Honey(B.O) will be laying next because she is squatting a lot similar to what ember does when I go to pet them. Fingers crossed!
