First Egg!!

Hi everybody my RIR just laid her first egg! She is 32 weeks. I know she won’t lay everyday now but should she lay them about every 3-4 days? Thank you! Now my other 7 have to start laying too! I will be able to eat this right?

Congratulations! Yes you can eat the egg. There is no set pattern with new layers. Some hit the ground running and lay nearly every day, some every other day, and others every third or fourth day. Hopefully your bird is an 'every dayer'.

My RIR laid nearly every day and her eggs were the largest, darkest of my original four hens (the others were a Sicilian Buttercup, Buff Orp and Barred Rock). Ginger Rogers, a prolific producer and sweet girl, is now deceased but her eggs -- which were too big to fit any carton -- were legendary. Hope yours are too!!
