First egg!!!

Another egg newbie. I had two eggs today, but the second was smallest and had a little blood. I think another one of my pullets has become a hen.

Nope, she's become a layer....not hen until one year of age. ;)
Don't worry about the blood, unless it continues.
Congrats!!

Thanks for the clarification. I am still learning. I was not concerned with the blood. It was not much. It was also on the first egg of my other one.

The Bovan Browns are going through a molt right now.
So do they always molt before they start laying? I've always read they molt. I'm seeing a lot of feathers but all of the chicks have full feathers so Im not sure I guess someone is molting. They love staying in their coop.

Weird. I found an egg under the coop. So another layer? I wonder how to train them to use the nesting boxes
Confine them to where the nests are, might be hard in the heat.
Use fake eggs in nests.
It can take up to a month or so for things to all smooth out.

The layers are 6 months old now. They have been laying small eggs. Look at what one of them laid today. Compared to a large brown egg from a year old hen. Now I know why there was extra loud cackling in the coop this morning

Whoohoo. Today was a 7 egg day. Four brown eggs. Only one of the Bovans didn't lay. My Light Brahma should be laying any time now. My Leghorns are consistently laying. I did get a fairy egg the other day. I wonder if it was the Brahma's first

Double Yolker?

Fairy eggs usually come from older birds....your year old(s) are probably getting ready to molt.
Eggs can get funky around molting time.
