My hens were being super loud this morning (free range) so I went outside and one of the girls basically jumped in my lap and liked being held, which is unusual for her. She kept being very loud and followed me to the coop .She climbed the latter to the nedting box and I saw an egg! Small but good color. Normal looking. I took it away and she jumped in the box and would not stop talking and would not leave the box. 30 mins later they were loud again so i went back out and she had laid another egg. Slightly bigger.
I took that one away too and went inside. Now I have other hens in other boxes 'trying them out' .

Is it normal that she laid two eggs?
Also, we scrambled the eggs for lunch. The shells were SO thick. Almost hard to break through .Is this normal?

Congrats!!
They can sure make a racket when onset of lay comes around.
I call it the 'Raucous Cacophony'.
I had one group of pullets that were so loud I had to close the windows in my house so I could work.

Agrees with @sourland, another pullet laid the first egg.

Here's how you may be able to tell....

Oh, and....
FYI.....semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.
Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.
Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).
Age in weeks or months is always a good thing to note.
