First hard, second Soft

My Delaware laid a nice hard egg this morning. This evening she laid one with a paper thin, soft shell. The yolk was fine. What's up with this? She has been laying for a week.

How long has she been laying?

New layers will have soft shells but, seems odd that she laid it after laying one this morning. Maybe it needed to cook longer. LOL

Put some oyster shell out for them. I had this problem and it was resolved almost immediately after providing them with a little dish (juice bottle bottom) full of oyster shell. They hardly seem to touch it but I haven't had any soft shells since.

I might try it. I use DE on a regular basis in the coop and run.
