Temperature is driving me up the ever loving wall!

All day long it will hold 99.8 just fine. But the very next morning when I check it, it has gone all wonky in the night. Sometimes it has shot all the way up to 102 and sometimes it swings all the way down to about 98. Does anyone else ever have this much trouble with an LG Still Air? Gaah!!

For all I know, the problem is with my new thermometer itself. When I was using the old one that came with the incubator I had no such sever temperature swings. The new thermometer/hygrometer combo from GQF is supposed to be here on Wednesday. I shall just have to wait and see then what steps I'll have to take next. Please, just don't let it be the purchase of yet another thermometer. The DH is already griping about the cost of additional equipment!

Everybody has trouble with a still air bator, Amy. They are highly prone to temp spikes. Adding a fan makes it better, circulates the air and keeps it regulated much better.

A blood ring means there was an embryo, but it has deceased and the blood has left it and formed a ring. So, bad thing. Here is a page in the Learning Center that has lots of info on it. https://www.backyardchickens.com/LC-howto.html

Wow! Thanks Cyn! What a wealth of information...went to that index and promptly got myself lost in all the great info for the better part of 2 hours!

I think I should have left myself a trail of bread crumbs to find my way back out. Every day, either on my own, or through all the helpful minds pointing me in the right direction, I discover another fascinating corner of BYC.

Thanks again Cyn.

Now, is there any chance you can add about 10 hours to every day so that I could have enough time to read through everything?

Day 19

Moved 6 light Brahma/Barred Rocks & 2 Pure Light Brahma to the hatcher this morning. Hatch date Feb 3rd. Due to the last hatch Failing badly, upped Humidity to 70-74% Temp 101. Hatcher is still air (may have to get a fan for it).

still have 7 mystery eggs in the incubator (hatch Date Feb 16th). Humidity increased to 45-55% and Temp to steady 99-100F.

If this doesnt work I have no clue what to try next.

We are going into Day 12 now. May candle my own BR eggs tonight, just to be sure they're still okay even though they obviously weren't shipped.

BTW, Beth and Kathy, Smoky is laying again! Her egg today was fertile, too, so Suede is still "Da Man!".

ETA: Candled my BR eggs and the lone Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana egg. All are growing very nicely. And all of the BR eggs belong to either Becca or Fern. I don't have any Becca daughters and this is the first time I've incubated Fern's eggs. kathyinmo has Fern's very first baby, a daughter named Holly. Ivy is about to be Grandma again!

Cynthia, how is everything coming along? I am delighted things are revving up!

Glad to hear that Suede is still "Da Man"! That means that maybe, someday, I'll still have a chance for a Suedette or two in my flock!
