I hope all five BBS Rocks hatch. If there is a blue or splash rooster, Scott has first dibs on that one. After I pick my Ameraucana pullets I want to keep, Frogtown (Sara) gets to decide if she wants the extras. She still owns Charlotte's sister, Silver. Now, anyone want an extra BR pullet or rooster? I have five in there, three of Becca's (never had one of Becca's babies) and two of Fern's. I may keep one or two BR pullets, if I get two, that is, and the rest will go. After I've made my picks a few weeks from now, whoever isn't spoken for goes on BSA. So, hope all of the remaining eggs hatch so I have some choices.
*** ETA: Another one of Becca's has pipped.
****ETA: As of 11:10 a.m., still just two BBS Rocks and two BRs pipped.
Becca's two pipped eggs are pushing on their shells and throwing off little pieces, but I still have just the four eggs pipped. I suddenly became very sick awhile ago so I'm in bed using my cool little ACER netbook computer Ellie sent me last year when I broke my ankle. Sorry if there are typos! The keyboard is small and takes a different hand position, but it's been a lifesaver more than once. Babies need to hurry up!
First BBS Rock popped the top off. Looks either blue or splash, but too wet to tell yet. No more pips that I can see other than the two BRs and the other BBS Rock. Oops, nope, a Fern egg is pipped and one of the BBS Ameraucanas pipped finally.
Pic of the first one, I think it's blue. Well, no, now that it's drying, I think it's splash, Kathy!
It could be a light blue. If it is a splash, then Kathy's hens retained something from her splash rooster she removed from the pen awhile before sending these eggs. The new rooster is black over blue and barred hens.
It sure took me forever to figure out what color those Orps were! First I thought one thing, then another ... Finally after they are all dried and fluffy, I can now tell the color. Well, that is, with Cetawin's assistance, I was able to figure it out! Is it always that way with BBS ?
The first one is drying to a very light silvery color that I usually associate with splash, but could be very light blue. The second chick is blue for sure. No others yet.
Yard full of rocks, I hatched about 52 eggs last year trying to get those splash ameracaunas......I got4.....They are very rare I think.....at least in my hatches but I have a lot of BBS blacks and then then some blues.
