First Hatch-A-Long Mixed Ducks May 2021

Hatching went pretty well I think! 78%-85% hatch rate! 11/14 eggs and a possible 12/14 (rooting on a wrong end pipper to make it!) Not too bad for a first go around! This guy here is my wrong end pipper.

I wrapped him in a warm wet towel and will now wait for him to finish up and escape. I also added vasoline to the exposed membrane to keep that from drying out. Hopefully what I did was good for the little one.
My first one that hatched sadly is deformed in his leg. It looks like it didnt finish developing and even one of his wings is short. Either that or the leg is off set. He can move his toes on it but it cant stretch out at all. He has a lot of energy though! So hopefully he will do just fine. He seems to springboard himself towards the food and water. Ill try some niacin and watertherapy and try stretching it some everyday and see if that helps him. Already given some probiotics and electrolytes. He is shown here below. If there are any suggestions to help him I would appreciate the help.

Otherwise all the others seem healthy and running around! I absolutely love the silver/blue ones and plan on keeping those.

And finally we have the ones that are still warming in the incubator!

So glad most of them did well! I was a bit worried that they might not have lost enough weight or their air cell might be too small. I got about no sleep cause I was nervous about these little babies but it was worth it. I now cant stop looking at their cute little faces.

Here’s an update on that last duckling she made it out! I was worried about her but she seems to be doing just fine. She’s so tiny compared to everyone else. Also here is her sleeping in my hand
