Thank you jengro65. Did you open your incubator while they were still hatching? The box I will be putting them in is small, but hopefully it will do for a bit until my permanent brooder is built.Nice set up Ariel!
I pulled the first 4 chicks out a few hours ago and they took to the ecoglow 50 with no problem....just so darn cute I can't stand it!

I can see the color difference, but I don't know the terms F2 and F1 Olive Eggers. What does that mean, if you don't mind my asking. The Olive Egger eggs I just set tonight look like the two you put in. Thanks for any info you can share and I'm so happy you have two now! I have been checking back on your posts every few hours, too!
yes it's a wild ride for sure. I have week old babies and 6 week old babies, Thank goodness my brinsea is a mini. or I would go wild.
F1 is usually a dark brown egg but the chick that hatches will lay and olive egger f1. If you set eggs that are already olive in color they are F2 and the chicks that hatch may lay olive green but also may lay brown. F2 is more of a risk that the chick hatched from it may or may not lay an olive egg. At least this is how I understand it. Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong!I can see the color difference, but I don't know the terms F2 and F1 Olive Eggers. What does that mean, if you don't mind my asking. Yeah I got the octagon 20 and I squeezed 31 in this set but only 22 made it to lockdown. This time I will set 28 or maybe 26, I just candled them all and I have 2 Barnevelder eggs that I am not sure if they are cracked or not so I will be posting photos for opinions. Thank you!yes it's a wild ride for sure. I have week old babies and 6 week old babies, Thank goodness my brinsea is a mini. or I would go wild.
I did not use the auto cool this first hatch. Not sure if I will use it the second one or not. I know someone told me DO NOT FORGOT to turn it OFF at lockdown or you could freeze your chicks that hatch if the cooling feature goes off. I didn't want to have to worry about that on my first hatch, but now that I am used to it I may use it next time, we will see.Oh, I also forgot to ask, Ariel, but did you use the auto cool feature on your Brinsea? We read the literature about it but I haven't looked here yet to see what people think of the feature. It seems to make sense and we thought if we used it we would time it to coincide with the time of day when we'd most likely be candling the eggs. Just wondering! Thanks!![]()
