First hatch coming soon!

We have four and at least 5 more on the way. I set 10 eggs on 2/10 and that will make at least 9 hatching. Still are 6 eggs set on 2/11. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I have 10 fuzzy butts in the incubator! I had 12 eggs out of 16 hatch so far, there are still 4 that should hatch today, but none are showing anything as of yet. I had two pretty little black chicks hatch as well, but they didn't make it.
I set a total of 21 eggs, 4 were clear at the first candling and 1 was cracked and seeping. 12 of the remaining have hatched with 4 more still to hatch. I feel that this has been a pretty good hatch for the first time with a home built incubator!

Here is quick tip for you that I learned to help get my chicks off to a good start. I noticed that chick starter feed crumbles can sometimes be a little large for them to eat for the first week or so. I put some in the blender and turn into a cornmeal consistency. They eat is up and get a good head start without having to pick thorugh or digest large pieces of food. It is not much trouble and has worked great for me. I find that Chick Starter bought at Southern States Farm and Garden Center comes already milled small enough for chicks but the starter at Tractor Supply needs blending.

Hope this helps...will you incubate again soon? When I did it for the first time I was so excited I ran another batch of eggs through the bator and now have two hatchces this year. First hatch was 13 out of 13 for 100% Second hatch was 23 out of 31 for a 75% hatch.

It's addictive for sure. Continued good luck in Conway...I live not far from you in Florence.

Wow! Sounds like your first hatch went really well!! Congrats!

I have a dozen Bourbon Red eggs coming the start of next week. If that hatch does proportionately as well as the chicken hatch went, I will have 6-8 turkeys here on the farm along with about 3 dozen chickens. Factor in the 4 dogs, 4 horses, 2 cats, 1 wife and all the grandkids, I think the farm will be pretty full. But, I sure would like to have some of MissPrissy's BBS Orps! I have 6 nice BO Hens and a real nice BO Roo coming up that I got in NC, but a few different colors of Orps would be just the ticket! I have to be careful around here at present anyway. My City Girl wife just about lost it when she came home and found a dozen Cornish Rocks in the bathtub in the guest bath! I explained to her that it was only the correct thing to do since they were guests in our home, but I don't really think that she bought into it! LOL!!! Sometimes I think that the ole girl has lost her sense of humor!
