First Hatch Jitters....

darn JJ I'm glad you jumped in. I just couldnt stand to see the one that was stuck and flailing. I fished all 3 out and got them on water and pecking food. Seem happy in the brooder now. looks like sleep may be a long way off for me tonight. Buttercup, I value your and Robo's advice. I was going to leave them be till the one got in trouble. The peeping stirring up the others makes sense. BTW, Robo, I cant seem to find your web site... It may be on my end thou. Bill

If there is a bunch wet in there, I leave them until they dry off, if there is one or two and they are fluffed up, they get outta there...

Sorry, meant to come back earlier and make sure he got it out by 8 hours anyway. Got caught up in blue light and solar flare reading.

Fat Daddy you don't have to stay up all night with them.
Before I go to bed, I pull everyone out and they aren't always completely dry either.
But for me they have to be walking good. Or I stay up with them until they are.
Next time you dive into the bator, pull that egg tray away from the wall. They always head for the walls and what ever direction they are headed in as they stumble around.

In the morning pull the ones hatched and mostly dry and walking good, if you have to go to work.
Once they start poping, I pull about every 8 hours, well I pull about 4 times in a day. Depends on the size of the hatch.

Just wanted to up date, # 19 hatched about 1 hr ago. No new ones have pipped for a long time. I think I'm about done with my first hatch. So far all are eating, drink'in and poop'in good. Im gonna keep the bator going thru tomorrow at least. I thank you all for the help and support. I hope to greet spring with a breeder pen full of birds and a grow-out pen or two ready for the BBQ. Is it too soon to start lookin for more eggs? :celebrateThanks, Bill

Nope!

I tend to leave the bator going for 3 days after last chick hatch if I can or I float test the eggs before throwing eggs out. (I also do eggtopsy and record the stats.)

You can get a few late bloomers this way.

That sounds like a good plan Rainwolf. I just found #20 in the bator and #21 just pipped. Hell it dont look like im done yet. 30 hrs of hatching and all 51 eggs set at the same time. I guess this is normal?
