My eggs are going to hatch in about only one week now! Katy, can you give me some tips?

Well done everyone.

I hope your dog comes back, Katy. A few months ago my Husky ran away....he's still not back....

But anyway. I also have a few chicks on the way. I'm really excited.

Everyone must send in pictures as soon as they hatch.

Easier said than done on the patience thing! I think I'll give them until noon to hatch and then decide what to do.

Zena (my dog) showed up a little bit ago. I went back out to look for her again after I had come in to warm up and she came running out of the barn. She's none the worse for it. Hubby says she was probably curled up in the bales sleeping, but I really don't think so unless her hearing is going (and she doesn't act like it). She always comes when I call...and I called plenty last evening and early this morning. She's 9 so I suppose her hearing could be starting to go....at least she showed up.

Glad she made it back, could be her hearing Katy, it happens with old girls

Maybe she just wanted a night to herself.

I love to say Patience!!! lol Remember that's one of the reasons my last hatch was 100%, I left everyone in til they finished!!

You'd think after all this time I wouldn't have hard time with the patience part of it, but I still do!!

And by the way......I've got the incubator divided so that the four orp eggs I put in are seperated from the rocks. The rocks and the wyandottes it isn't a problem telling apart because of the combs, but the rocks and the orps are harder even tho usually the rocks have more yellow on them...and of course their leg color is eventually different. There are waaaaay too many splashes on the wyandotte and rock side. I was hoping for more blues/blacks. Oh well, at least they're hatching.

The four little orps are getting leg bands or painted toenails I think.

I painted a chicks toenails and by the next day it was gone. I guess they picked it off? So I have no idea which one it was. Hmm

That's probably been the hardest thing for me over the years. Also I very rarely help a chick to hatch. If your incubation process has been ok as far as temps and humidity, most of the time there's a reason they can't make it out on their own.
