yes one of the one that hatched was the first one to externally pip. The two on the wrong end have still not hatched,,, they are both alive but Im worried.
Oh no, you have two on the wrong end? >.< Have they made any progress since their first external pip hole? Sometimes they hatch out just fine like I said, but sometimes they get stuck and can't turn in there to finish hatching on their own. How long has it been since each one has externally pipped?
but not making much progress.. its seems like the opening on one is "sticky" (drying out a little- worried that the ducks feathers might be stuck to it)
There is ALOT of info there, I would suggest reading through it so you can tell if/when they need help. There is a section farther down on malpositions and pipping at the wrong end. Helping is always a last resort because it's always best if they can get out themselves, but just wanted you to be prepared just in case.
Thank you so much!!! I did go back and read the link you sent. So much great information!! We assisted both: the first is hatched and doing well...
the second we assisted half way and put back in the incubator.
I was more concerned with the second one because the inner membrane/ blood vessels were more visible and I didn't want to disturb them. I have raised the humidity and am keeping an eye on him... just didn't want to cause any bleeding. Both ducklings have now been 50 + hours since pipping...so I believe it was time to help.
Awesome, so glad you got one out and it's ok! I don't like to push people too much to help, but I know it was the right time for you to step in as well, so good job! Keeping fingers crossed for your second guy!
I'd love to see pics of the other hatchlings as well when you get the chance. I have my first batch of eggs for the year in my incubator right now, due to hatch in 5 days. Can't get enough of all the pics of everyone's ducklings right now!
Oh no! Well, that is the danger of helping, unfortunately. :/ Do you have him in a cup to help him finish absorbing the yolk? Sometimes they will finish absorbing and be fine, but they often don't make it when the yolk is unabsorbed at hatching. Keep us updated, and good luck with him!
