First hatch of the year.

My malpositioned chick (yet to hatch, still alive) was pecked at by its fellow chicks and one of them seems to have popped open a blood vessel. I tried to sprinkle cornstarch over it. If its still alive by 11p tonight, I'll move in to remove it from the rest of the egg, we're at the 30 hour mark for that chick.

Good luck!

Decided to give it another 12 hours for it to absorb some more yolk and blood before I attempt to assist. I don't believe its currently in any danger since it can still breathe and has continued to move within the shell - I can see its feet pressing against the inner membrane.

The peeping egg I had last night before going to bed died!! :(
Cracked the egg open and the membrane was pretty dried.. It had internally pipped into the air cell.

What a bust on that hatch!!!
My temp was perfect and never dropped through incubation and my humidity was 45%to day 18 and then 70% during lockdown..

First pip and first peeps from one of my silkie eggs just now. I'm a little worried though,it's 39 hours early.
As long as it has pipped on the larger end it should be fine. It will probably zip and push off the top of the egg and lay in the bottom half for a while to absorb all the yolk and blood for a while since it hatched so early. Or it could be possible that you're running a higher temp that you initially thought?

Was it shrink wrapped or squishy? If the humidity was too high, it could have drowned since the aircell would have been filled with water.

I've heard of people using up to 80% - it all really depends on your climate. Also -- was the water warm/hot when placed in the bator? If the water is too cold or room temp, it will actually bring the temperature too far down, so that may have been an issue.

There should have been some mild condensation on the windows of the bator, just to give you an idea of how humid it should look.

The water was cool going in..

Ugh! I want to give another go but I hate disappointment..
I always hatch via broody and obviously have fantastic success..
I live in New England and it's flipping cold. None of my hens would dare think about going broody in this temperature..
