First Hatch!

I figure a 50% hatch rate is not too bad with first time mamas and young cockerels who don't always quite hit their intended target.

RIRs and Isa Browns are not prone to be broody. Every once in a great while I get one that will be broody for a few days then stop. My RIRs like to share a nest box.

That's a huge nest box!! My girls would think they'd died and gone to the heaven if they had nest boxes that big. Mine are prefab metal boxes that are 12" X 12" max. I went out the other day and found 2 hens in one box. I'm still not sure how they both got in or both got out. Maybe they're hiding a shoe horn in the coop somewhere...
