First hatch!!

Yep, I try to be quick without jostling or dropping them. When I do turn it is very slow and careful. I'm so excited!! It has given me DD and I something to do together, so it's been really fun!!

I have full glass doors on my incubators so I can look in daily. still don't know what im expecting to see, I know its either gonna be eggs or chicks LOL

my wife loves chickens almost as much as I do... ok maybe more.... even though we live in the heart of chicken country, people do think we are nuts.

Oh wow, I'm only a week into this hatching stuff and I totally understand what you mean by it being addicting, I'm using a homemade incubator right now and so far, so good. I'll candle them tomorrow for the first time to see what they are doing, and adding some chicken eggs to the mix as well. However, the other day while searching for something on EBay that has nothing to do with chickens, I was also looking at incubators.

ive put a lot of thought into building an incubator for our farm. I probably will build one this summer to hold around 1000-1500 eggs. along with our own hatching, I offer hatching services on trade to look for new and better lines. I stack my sportsman incubators as full as I can get them. (over 300 large fowl eggs if you do it right) and still don't have enough room sometimes.

ok, maybe I am obsessed

Yes, yes I do! LoL thank you all for the support! How do you go,to,work when one is piping? I think I would have to,be,sick that day lol

We just got our first chicks a week ago (day olds), and I am incubating my 1st eggs in a Styrofoam homemade incubator (runner ducklings). My kids, hubby and I are so excited and I def see where you are coming from... I am DYING to hatch more and mine haven't even hatched yet! LOL I'm pretty positive (although I'm new at this) that we have lost one of the 3 so far (I got them 2 days ago, they were in with mom for 2 weeks, then an incubator the day I picked them up. My hubby was like "I hope you know what you are doing, this is all you" and the first day we had the chicks he was attached, and hes running to the bator as much as me to check on the eggs! LOL HA he's hooked too!

lol. I candled them the day I got them, then my bator dropped to 93 degrees for a few hrs so I candled them again later that night.... WE SAW MOVEMENT and it was so exciting! I know, we are dorks. We candled them today again because my one thermometer said it was 99 d and the other said 103! We are pretty sure we saw blood and no movement in one, but we are going to check it again today (this evening) to make sure since we don't really know too much about this stuff yet.

If you don't see movement don't get rid of it treat the egg the same way as the others. I got rid of a bad egg after all the good eggs hatched but to my surprise the couple that I thought were no good thank god I didn't get rid of them hatched a day late but hatched.. so be patient and try not to open the incubator that much the humidity is very important with there development..
