I incubated eggs for the first time. I had two of each color egg from a barnyard mix. Most of them grew something but died early on. One died right at the very end and my two Ayam cemani mixes hatched. Are they easier to hatch out?? Anybody else had weird things like that happen? I gave eggs to a broody this time, same eggs and am excited to see what will happen

The ones that died early on sound like a temperature problem. Which incubator are you using?

And for the one that died right at the end, did it pip internally or externally at all?

I'm not using anything fancy. Its one of those Styrofoam ones with the plastic inside. I bought a separate reader for temp and humidity that I kept inside. Im sure I didn't have things perfect at first but its just odd that the same two hatched. The last one did not pip and still had a little yolk left. Which surprised me since I had it down pretty good at the end. Or so I thought!

That is strange! I would guess that the temp must be too low if it's a problem with the incubator. Although of course it could be the eggs themselves that had a problem.

I'm going to buy eggs from someone else and try them! Does anybody know any good books on hatching eggs? I bought one called "hatching and brooding your own chicks" by gail damerow but a few parts about temp and humidity are confusing to me

That's the only book that I would recommend! Which parts are confusing?

The humidity vrs temperature. It seemed like it was trying to say if you had more humidity or less then you change the temp. Which is not what I have read. I learned alot in it but couldn't figure out at all their temp humidity chart

What was your temp and humidity days
1-18 and at lockdown?
I think I had it between 98 and 101. Until I got it to stabilize and then I had it between 99 and 100 and the humidity I had between 30 to 40 and at the end same temp but 70 humidity
