First incubation

400

Here's another picture poor little guy didn't stand a chance.

It had to be humidity I guess a wash cloth would of helped the humidity dropped to 70 but I didn't think that was low enough to hurt anything. Need to take off work on hatching days lol

I am pretty sure the humidity was too low. Sometimes I will put a damp cloth in the incubator when it is time to pip. You also want to keep the temps up to about 100 f.

Could I bath him in a warm bath with dawn? One has its feathers glued to his back. I pulled all the chicks out of the bator thought I'd save as many as I could. We have a total of 13 right now.

Another thing that's driving me crazy...is it possible that my bator has a cold spot? This sounds crazy but hear me out. All my chicks that hatched on day 21 were on the right. The ones hatching today and ones that are peeping are from the left. I don't mean most, of them I mean all of them.

The dried hatching gunk will dry and fluff up, better not to water bathe them..at least not in the first 3 days or so..
I've used a very soft toothbrush to help break it up.....or gently 'preen' them with your fingertips/nails.

Thank you, I'm trying to get this pic of its wing to post but can't. The wing that's sticking out funny is the one it had its head glued under

If I have a chick with glued feathers hatch---The time I take it out the incubator--I hold it under the slow running water(set to about 100 degree's) and wet, use a drop of dawn---wash and dry with a towel---then blow dry---then place it in the warm brooder with the others. I hatched over 6000 in just one year so I had to do a few. Never been a problem.

Yes your incubator can have cold spots if it is a still air----if its got a good working fan----cold spots are usually about elimated. Good Luck.

It has a fan but idk how well it's working, I think I found the problem though. The lid doesn't sit flat on the left side, you get what you pay for. For 60 dollars I guess I can complain much. I have purchased a new one, an incuview I think that's what it's called. My wife and I enjoy hatching chicks together and thought it was time to buy a decent one that we ain't constantly having trouble with
