Mama had it in for this chick from day one, she pecked at the shell causing it to hatch early blood everywhere so I nursed it along to the point where it was doing nearly as well as the others. Yesterday I slipped it under and she took it in, but I should have paid more attention to the fact that she wasn't encouraging it to go under her like she did the others
it laid in the open for a while and it concerned me but then it got the hang of it after my encouragement and went under with everyone else.
This morning I found it already weaker than the others a cold night in the open finished it off. Just very frustrating I should paid more attention to her behavior towards the chick, I don't think it saw the hen as mama either just warmth, it would come to me when I came to the pen, rather than being bundled up with the others.
Lesson learned, next time I'll be much more observant.
I was looking forward to seeing it's coloring too, a nearly white/yellow chick with black specks, it was out of a maran hen.
