First Night in coop

My chickens have started laying under the steps to the coop. They have been in the coopnsince yesterday and they were doing it almost immediatly. Is it because they laid in the brooder together for so long? Is this normal? Should I build them a little box to get in?

How warm is it where you are? Mine were definitely huddling in the shadiest places on our warmest days.

The littles hanging out in the big chick "run." This was made this so they have a dry spot to go to free of snow and rain. This summer we will add hardwire and sturdier plastic that won't flap so much in the wind. We got an auto door also so they can access the run without having to wait for us to get up

Mine are a month old and moved from brooder to the coop 5 days ago. Havent let them out in the run yet tho. Something pulled a hopper door open about 3 inches last night and got one of my 2 turkey poults. :'( Everyone else is fine. No idea what got in, maybe a weasel as I dont think the space was large enough for a coon. Its all padlocked down now so hoping nothing finds a way in tonight. It was my male poult (the turkeys are about 6 weeks) so think he maybe was be8ng protective and thats why he got grabbed rather than one of the smaller chicks. Whatever it was wasnt able to get him out. Just ate a foot and both wings? Rather odd I thought. The coop is what used to be an icehouse. So tho its an old building its build darn solid and I cant find any other points of entry. Ugg

I know my coop is Fort Knox. I'm just having that initial feeling of your children sleeping away from home for the first time lol It's actually a fairly cool night tonight, so that has me worried further, as they are still kinda young. My logical side says everything will be fine, but my overly anxious side has me freaking out lol

I'm not asking any questions. just sharing my psychosis LOL
You are overflowing with care and compassion. Nothing to be ashamed of! You are an excellent example of humidity. Refreshing to hear, in our upside down world!
They will be fine.
Best regards,
FC
