First night in coop!

Mine too are about a month old. I transitioned them during week three, by turning off the lamp and taking them outside for the day.

Now they live in the coop in a large wire dogcrate. 1 inch squares to the wire, so they can't get out and the big folks can't get in. I tried a huddle box, but they weren't having that. So now I put an old dog bed fleece over them when it gets cold. High 20's with wet mix came down last night, they were fine this am.

The biggest thing is to make sure they and their bedding is dry and not in a draft. Cold and dry is ok, cold and wet is a recipe for disaster.

Awesome!! I thought they looked close to the same age as my girls. I decided to bite the bullet and put mine outside too. They seem to be doing ok so far! I have heat out there for them too but they’re also huddled together in the corner. Crossing my fingers it goes well tonight!! I’m going to have a hard time not checking on them a million times tonight!

Ha, I understand the feeling. But after one run out there about 11 last night, and the only thing I got for my trouble was them all fussing because of the light, I figured they'd be fine lol.

Little bossy hen did get out of the pile and come check me out, looking for treats or challenging me, I dunno.

Introduced the girls to their new coop! Meet Ginny, Tonks, Winky, Niffler, Butterbeer, and Buckbeak.

Just in case you go out a lot at night to check on them, I use this a lot during winter, when I come home from work, with red led light doesn’t wake them up.

I dread the first night in the coop for ours, which will be on Easter. Am I totally overprotective? Why yes!

Love the natural roosts. We have been saving trimmings from our orchard for roosts in the coop and in the run.

Running out to check on chicks new to the coop, is the best form of exercise. If you do it a dozen times your fit bit will be very happy.

I have got to get me a headlamp. Juggling a flashlight and manipulating the door locks is hard when your fingers are cold lol. Good idea on getting one with red light, I hate disturbing them when I do go out.
