My 12 chicks made me feel terrible last night. They were in their new coop all day yesterday and I thought I would try them overnight for the first time...didn't work..as soon as it got dark they started screaming, flying around and generally freaking out..I had to pick them all up and bring them back in the house to their bins..calmed right down and went to sleep. What do I need to do? Bring their bins out to the coop so they can sleep in them as that is what they are used to? I just felt terrible, but they need to go out in the coop now, they are 6 weeks old?

Just put them in the coop tonight and close the door. They'll get used to it. Its a change, chickens hate change :)

It's going to be really hard for me to do that...I so love animals and they made me feel like I did something terrible to them..I know I have to do it though..thanks for the input.

You could move the bins out to the coop for the first few nights To give them something familiar the first few nights

Success!! I put the bins in the coop last night...they went right in and went night night...now to break them from their bins..

I've read that a few places here. I'm planning on putting the brooder in the coop for the first few days or week.

I know I am not going to handle hearing them crying that first week. I can move the brooder out there and make them feel better, but who is going to make me feel better??

I'm going to miss the little stinkers!

I go out and have coffee with my chickens on the week end and every night I take a few min to give out a few treats
